The “Chursächsische Philharmonie e.V. – orchestra of the Saxon State Spa in Bad Elster and Bad Brambach” was founded on November 27, 1992 in Bad Elster. Since January 1, 1993, it is the sponsor and organiser of the Chursächsische Philharmonic orchestra as well as its chamber music ensemble and other ensembles.
An excerpt of the association rules:
“The association’s purpose is to promote culture, particularly in the cultural region of the Vogtland as well as in western Saxony, northeaster Franconia and bordering Bohemia. This is supposed to be realised through concerts to uplift those needing to recover as well as convalescents, symphony concerts, musical theatre productions, CD recordings, chamber music concerts, student concerts, concerts at primary schools, the promotion of up-and-coming artists, the support of choir performances, church concerts, promoting conservatories as well as promoting the population’s understanding of classical music. In addition to the cultural foundation, the association also has an economic base as a significant service provider in the “vacation concert region of the Vogtland.”
The Chursächsische Philharmonic is primarily financed through the sales resulting from around 700 annual concerts in the Saxon State Spa and generates additional income at guest performances, where it acts as a special orchestra and musical ambassador for the region, as well as national and international contributions and its own resources. Music is played on historical instruments, which were primarily handcrafted in the Vogtland.
The Chursächsische Philharmonic receives further support through the Association of Friends and Sponsors of the Chursächsische Philharmonic e.V.
The Kulturraum Vogtland originally also sponsored the Chursächsische Philharmonic directly. Due to support-related relevancies of the Vogtland Philharmonic Greiz/ Reichenbach e.V., which is also at home in the Vogtland, this subsidy has been assigned to the latter since 1998 after the conclusion of a cooperation agreement, according to which the regionally significant “Vogtland Philharmonic/ Chursächsische Philharmonic” is supported. In return, the Vogtland Philharmonic will guarantee the Chursächsische Philharmonic and others five permanent musician positions.
